The Charlotte Hornets are an American professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1988 as an NBA expansion team and played its first seasons in the league as the original Charlotte Hornets. After relocating to New Orleans for a few years, the team returned to Charlotte in 2014 as the Hornets. The team has yet to win an NBA championship, but has had notable players throughout its history, including Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, and Kemba Walker.
